International Research Seminar “Digital Technologies and Religious Practices”. Online

On March 17, 2022, the HSE Center for Digital Cultures and Media Literacy is holding a seminar on the digitalization of religious practices. The focus of the seminar is the attitude of various faiths representatives to the use of media in religious practices, different views on the use of new technologies to support everyday religiosity both among religious leaders and within communities.

The discussions about whether journalism can be considered as a science are as ageless as discussions about its essence. Is it an aspect of literature? Is it a craft? Is it an art? Those who do research in MediaStudies area in our country are concerned about what sciences are the main ones in academic profession and how one should shape his work towards the traditional philology in Russia if he studies computer games, virtual or augmented reality, data journalism or robotic algorithms of text generation.

The “Participation Environment”: HSE students collaborate with museums, galleries and archives in Perm

The joint project of the Center for Digital Cultures and Media Literacy and the Vladimir Potanin Foundation on the development of university’s collaboration with cultural and social institutions, “Participation environment”, was launched in Perm in September 2019. Students from different areas started their work on digital projects for social and cultural institutions of their cities. Las Friday, on 20th of September, the first meeting took place in Perm university. Student of the educational programme “History” met with representatives of State Art Gallery, Museum of Modern Art PERMM, Museum of Local History and State Archieve of Perm Region.

Start of the “Participation environment” project

The joint project of the Center for Digital Cultures and Media Literacy and the Vladimir Potanin Foundation on the development of university’s collaboration with cultural and social institutions, “Participation environment”, was launched in Perm, Novosibirsk and Nizhny Novgorod. Students of media, history and journalism departments began their work on digital projects for various social and cultural institutions in their cities. We will now have a chance to know more not only about each other, but about amazing projects and regional organisations: museums, theatres, funds, libraries, scientific laboratories, festivals.

Lecture Series 'Khitrovka Wednesdays'

'Khitrovka Wednesdays' at Khitrovka is a platform for public dialogue and an open lecture house of the HSE Centre for Digital Cultures and Media Literacy. We discuss the most current topics of rapidly changing digital environment, new digital experience of “a communicating person”, ethics and aesthetics of new cultural practices, its influence on everyday life, experimental media formats and immersive practices.

'Khitrovka Wednesdays' is where participants can meet and debate and media and digital industries professionals, including producers, directors, heads of multimedia projects, digital platforms, services, channels, editions, production studios, museum curators, and creators of cultural events and performances, can give lectures.
